Decorating an entire home or apartment from scratch isn’t easy to do yourself. It takes a lot of time and skill to pull together a cohesive look. This apartment was truly a blank slate. My client and his son, a university student, were moving in with no furniture or accessories. While I had to work with the existing flooring and cabinets, everything else was fair game.

Initial phone call

It all starts with a phone call. Before we meet in person, I’ll walk you through what to expect and explain how we’ll work together.

First consultation

Step two is our first meeting. At this initial consultation, we’ll review the scope of the project together, tour the space, and discuss your priorities, style, and budget.

When I met with this client for the first time, he told me that he really wanted the space to feel tidy and comfortable, without being crowded or cluttered. With no furniture or artwork to provide me with a sense of his style, I took my cues from his outfit: at our meeting he was sporting a crisp navy shirt and blazer, classic tan pants and rich cognac leather shoes.

Site visit

Step three is especially important for a whole home project. I’ll bring my team in for a site visit to take measurements and confirm the scope of the project, so that I can provide accurate quotes for everything.

Design phase

The design phase comes next. This is when I put together a comprehensive, customized plan for your project. I consider every detail, ensuring everything works together, and come up with creative solutions for any challenges in the space.

For this project, my client’s wish list included having a desk in each bedroom for homework and working from home.

I also had to think outside the box to accommodate a functional furniture layout in the living room. Originally, there were french doors from the living room into the second bedroom, which were placed in such a way that it was impossible to place the living room furniture. The solution was a custom wood wall panel that enabled us to center the sofa and hang the art across from the entertainment unit.

Presentation

Once the plan is ready, it’s presentation time! I walk you through the entire concept and show you how everything works together. We do this in your home, so it’s easier to visualize the end result.

Ordering

During the next stage, there is literally nothing you need to do. My team takes care of every detail: ordering, assembling, and inspecting everything to make sure it’s ready for delivery.
