Functional Funky Refresh

Many homeowners I meet love certain elements of their home but they don’t know how to make changes to update the overall look and feel.

This often leads to them avoiding that revamp because they are afraid of making mistakes. However, with the help of a decorator, the elements you love can be incorporated into your refresh, while giving your home a makeover.

These clients have been in this home for over 10 years and were looking to brighten up their space without completely altering the layout or getting rid of the major details in these rooms. I wanted to work with the existing elements of each room by bringing in new pieces and a new colour palette that would update the rooms for this family.

When it came to curating a colour palette for this home, the clients wanted their home to be cozy, funky and more contemporary.

Establishing a colour palette

The jumping off point for the refresh was this beautiful abstract ikat fabric that contained the deep teal, navy and white.

Living Room Refresh

For the living room, pieces like new artwork and custom drapery are changes that seem simple but completely transform a room. The homeowners still loved the wall colours, so I incorporated that into the cool-toned colour palette.

Much needed side tables and a coffee table were added for functionality, as well as a beautiful lamp for a cozy reading area. A larger area rug and updated accessories were incorporated into the space to pull everything together.

Kitchen Refresh

In the kitchen, the homeowners wanted to create a brighter and more modernized look without having to do a complete renovation. They were happy with the layout and their cabinets so we updated a few of the room’s elements to give it a fresher and current feel.

The homeowners had their perimeter cabinets professionally painted in Benjamin Moore Decorator’s White and the island painted Benjamin Moore’s Willow. We also changed their floor tile to a warm grey that coordinates beautifully with their existing granite.

New under cabinet lighting also allows light to bounce off the new white backsplash, which creates visual interest that is also practical.

Powder Room Refresh

I stayed true to the boldness that they were looking for by repainting the powder room a deep teal and commissioning a custom mural that reminded me of a beautiful tattoo. The mural creates drama and impact in the small space, without making it feel cramped or overwhelming. The addition of a new sink cabinet creates more storage space for added functionality.

BEFORE

Decorating can be an overwhelming feat for many homeowners because they are so used to seeing their rooms a certain way. Hiring a decorator can give you a fresh perspective, while incorporating pieces that you love.

Here’s what my clients had to say about their experience:

Working with Natalie made our entire renovation process a breeze.

Natalie is easy to work with and kept us organized and on track through the entire process. She presented different options when needed, providing guidance to ensure an authentic feel and look to our home. Natalie’s talent shines in her ability to blend cherished items in our home with new pieces to update our look.

At the start of this process, I was unsure about how a designer would be able to reflect our personal tastes, but Natalie accomplished exactly that. She quickly identified our tastes and came up with unique and creative ideas that both my husband and I loved, seamlessly blending our styles.

Natalie quickly assessed our use of space and the needs of our family, paying attention to details, creating spaces that are both beautiful and functional. They are comfortable to live in yet have that added touch that we would not have been able to accomplish on our own.

We can’t wait to get started working with Natalie on our next project to continue these beautiful transformations in our home.
