With so many plans, activities, and events cancelled over the past few months, many of us have been feeling a lot less “busy”. Personally, I have been using some of this extra time at home to do more of my favourite things! It’s got me thinking about how my renovation projects are often designed around a client’s interests and hobbies – basically helping them do more of the things they love.

When I met with the clients for this renovation, they told me that they loved to entertain their large families. Unfortunately, their current kitchen didn’t have a ton of wiggle room. In addition, the lack of counter space made it difficult to do all the baking they loved to do.

In order to give the kitchen more counter space, we decided to close up one of the entryways to the kitchen from the dining room (not to worry, there was another entry around the corner a few feet away!) With the added wall space, we were able to add a double wall oven and a larger refrigerator.

Then, the island was extended into the eat in kitchen area, providing 10’ of usable counter space that is perfect for baking. We also added a beverage fridge in the island for added functionality.

Although we kept a warm wood finish on the new cabinetry, the finished kitchen feels lighter and brighter than before thanks to the glass backsplash, creamy granite countertops, and swapping some of the solid upper cabinets for glass doors.

This kitchen renovation gave my clients all the space they needed to spread out when baking and hosting large gatherings. It’s now easy and enjoyable to do all their favourite things.
