How Would It Feel to Have a Living Room Where You Can Unwind?

When you get home after a long day at the office, do you have a place to kick back and relax?

If your answer is yes, that’s great! But if not, read on to see how I helped one of my favourite clients!

Jon and Karen have three kids, and craved a more adult space in their home to relax and unwind after a busy day.

They had a living room off the main entrance of their house that was underused for several years. Knowing they wanted to do more in that space, but didn’t know where to start, they called me to come up with a design plan.

How we created their sanctuary

After we finished the tour of their home, I asked them what they were missing. They wanted to open their home up to more entertaining, and get more use out of their living spaces. We tackled their family room at the same time.

Since the living room connects to the dining room and the front hall, the layout needed to accommodate traffic flow from both of those spaces. Their only other requirement was to include their existing piano and floral toss cushions.

They had a beautiful teak dining set, as well as some lovely art, which they loved. I was inspired to use both as a jumping off point for the new room.

I chose a mid-century inspired sofa and two armchairs from our extensive LIVV Home Collection. The cozy rustic wood pieces create an inviting vibe that flows with the rest of their home. Beautiful lamps with a bit of sparkle were added for reading, as well as ambient light.

The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable – a great space to curl up with a book and a cup of tea (or wine), or entertain a group of friends.

What my clients had to say

Once we decided that it was time to tackle our long-neglected spaces, we knew that we would be buying quite a bit of new furniture, but were nervous about getting the quality that we wanted, while ensuring that all the purchases worked together in our space. We had a basic idea of what we wanted for our rooms, but felt overwhelmed by the myriad of choices available. After our initial meeting with Natalie, we were totally convinced that she understood the style that we were looking for, even as we struggled to describe it. She listened to our ideas and came back with a plan that reflected our tastes perfectly.
